The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office performs local (Brunswick County only) background checks. For a local check, citizens must visit the office and provide a photo ID. Telecommunicators will perform the local background check and provide results on the form provided by the citizen.
For a State of Virginia background check the SP-167 form can be used. It is found on the Virginia State Police website via the link below. The form has to be generated on the website and then printed, signed in section one by the applicant, and then notarized. It will return Virginia conviction data only. To receive a full Virginia record of charges and convictions a fingerprint card must accompany the form.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office offers fingerprinting services to Brunswick County residents. Fingerprinting is every Tuesday from 9 am – 11 am and 1 pm – 3 pm.
